How It Works?

Technician using the Easy-Laser XT770 laser shaft alignment system to align an industrial pump and motor

The XT770 measures the relative positions of two coupled shafts to identify vertical and horizontal misalignment. Two laser measuring units are mounted on opposite sides of the coupling and connected wirelessly to the XT Alignment app, which then calculates the corrections required at the machine feet. From initial setup and measurement to live adjustment and final reporting, the app guides users through each stage of the shaft alignment process. The steps below shows how the system is being utilised during a typical alignment job:

  1. Step 01

Mount and Connect the Measuring Units

Attach the XT70-M and XT70-S measuring units to the shafts using the supplied brackets and chains. The units connect wirelessly to the XT Alignment app on an Easy-Laser XT12 display unit or a compatible iOS or Android device.

  2. Step 02

    Select the Alignment Program

Choose the appropriate program for the machinery, such as horizontal, vertical or flange-mounted machines, machine trains or cardan-coupled machinery.

  3. Step 03

    Enter the Machine Dimensions

Enter the required distances between the measuring units, coupling and machine feet. These dimensions allow the system to calculate the necessary alignment corrections.

  4. Step 04

    Select a Measurement Method

Choose from Continuous Sweep, Uncoupled Sweep, Multi Point, EasyTurn or 9-12-3 according to the machine configuration and available shaft rotation.

  5. Step 05

    Record the Alignment Measurements

Rotate the shafts as required by the selected method. The dual laser beams and two-axis detectors record the relative positions of the shafts in both the vertical and horizontal directions.

  6. Step 06

    Review and Correct the Alignment

The app displays the machine’s “As Found” alignment condition and calculates the required adjustments at the machine feet. Use the live values to correct the machine vertically with shims and horizontally by moving it sideways.

  7. Step 07

    Verify and Document the Results

Measure the machine again to confirm that it is within the required tolerance. Save the final “As Left” results alongside the original measurements and generate a PDF or Excel report for documentation and sharing.

Problems It Can Help Solve
