Easy-Laser XT550 laser shaft alignment system aligns machinery in potentially explosive environments.
The Easy-Laser XT550 is a laser shaft alignment system designed for alignment purposes in potentially explosive environments. It’s Ex-approved XT50 measuring units support alignment of horizontal and vertical or flange-mounted machines in Zone 1/21 areas.
Utilising the XT Alignment app, users can measure shaft alignment, make adjustments, and document the results through a guided workflow. The system can also be paired with the separately available, certified ecom Tab-Ex display unit for work within hazardous area.
The XT550 system enables maintenance teams to carry out precise shaft alignment in potentially explosive environments while making the measurement, adjustment and reporting process easier to manage. Explore the key benefits below.
Built for shaft alignment in potentially explosive environments, the XT550 combines Ex-approved measuring units with guided programs and a choice of measurement methods. It also provides tools to check installation conditions, guide adjustments, and document the completed work. The features below show how these capabilities support each stage of the alignment process.
Ex-approved XT50 Measuring Units
The XT50-M and XT50-S units are certified for use in potentially explosive Zone 1/21 environments.
Dual Dot Lasers and Detectors
Both measuring units have a laser, a one-axis PSD detector and an electronic inclinometer for recording shaft positions.
Five Measurement Methods
Choose Continuous Sweep, Uncoupled Sweep, Multi Point, EasyTurn™ or 9–12–3 to suit the machine and how its shafts can be rotated.
Machine Alignment Programs
Measure horizontal, vertical and flange-mounted machines, or build a machine train. Cardan shaft alignment requires an additional bracket kit.
Installation Checks
Dedicated functions measure soft foot and twist of the machine base. The Values program can also be used to check bearing clearance.
Adjustment Tools
The XT Alignment app includes live adjustment values, thermal growth compensation and preset or custom alignment tolerances.
Digital Documentation
Save As found and As left results in one measurement file and generate PDF and Excel reports.
The XT550 system follows a guided process from mounting the measuring units to documenting the final alignment. The steps below describe a typical horizontal shaft alignment procedures; the selected program and measurement method may change for other machinery configurations.
Attach the XT50-M and XT50-S units to the shafts on opposite sides of the coupling using the supplied brackets, chains and rods.
Connect the units wirelessly to a device running the XT Alignment app. In a potentially explosive area, use a display certified for that area, such as the separately available ecom Tab-Ex.
Choose the alignment program for the machine arrangement, then enter the requested distances between the measuring units, coupling and machine feet.
Select Continuous Sweep, Uncoupled Sweep, Multi Point, EasyTurn™ or 9–12–3 according to how the shafts can be rotated.
Rotate the shafts as directed by the app. The measuring units record alignment data, and the app displays the As found result.
Use the displayed correction values to shim and move the machine as needed. Live values help guide the adjustment, while the tolerance check shows whether the alignment meets the selected limits.
Measure again to confirm the final result. Save the As left measurement alongside the As found result and generate a PDF or Excel report.
Shaft alignment can be challenging when machines operate in potentially explosive areas or when installation conditions affect the measurement. The XT50 measuring units are EX-approved, which allows these checks to be performed in suitable Zone 1/21 environments. Any display and accessories used in the area must also be assessed for the site’s hazardous area requirements.
The XT550 shaft alignment system helps users investigate and correct the following alignment-related problems.
Misaligned coupled shafts
Soft foot
Twisted machine bases
Alignment that changes during operation
Uncertain alignment results
This system is suitable for the following rotating machines which shafts can be accessed for measurement and alignment.
Motor-Driven Pumps, Fans and Compressors
Vertical and Flange-Mounted Machines
Turbine-Driven Equipment
Multi-Machine Trains
Cardan or Offset-Mounted Machinery
The XT550 shaft alignment system is relevant to facilities where coupled rotating machinery must be aligned in areas with potentially explosive gas or dust atmospheres. These applications may be found in the following industries.
Oil and Gas
Petrochemical and Refining
Chemical Manufacturing
Pharmaceutical Manufacturing
Food and Grain Processing
