MCEMAX Electric Motor Analyser

MCEMAX Electric Motor Analyser

The MCEMAX analyser assesses electric motors while running or shut down. It then uses the combined test history to support more informed maintenance decisions.

Product Overview

MCEMAX electric motor analyser in a portable case with integrated laptop, test leads and current probes

The MCEMAX is a portable electric motor analyser designed to assess motors while they are in operation or in shut down mode. It brings both approaches together in one instrument, giving maintenance teams a way to investigate motor condition and track changes over time.

The MCEMAX analyser is designed for testing electric motors and generators, with results managed through its integrated MCEGold software.

Key Benefits

The MCEMAX electric motor analyser helps users make better-informed maintenance decisions with a clearer view of motor condition. It enables maintenance teams to investigate suspected problems, identify changes that need attention, and use test history to guide follow-up work. Explore the following key benefits.

  1. Build a more complete picture of motor condition: Assess the motor and its electrical supply across six fault zones, helping teams investigate whether a concern lies within the motor or elsewhere in its circuit.
  2. Investigate issues under different operating conditions: Test motors while running or shut down, so users can examine conditions that may appear only during operation alongside those assessed through static tests.
  3. Spot changes over time: Keep a history of test results in the MCEGold software and compare readings across inspections to identify developing changes that warrant attention.
  4. Prioritise follow-up work: Colour-coded alerts highlight results outside the software’s acceptance criteria, helping teams identify which findings need closer review.
  5. Test motors where they are installed: The portable, battery-powered system can be brought to motors or starters that are difficult to reach, supporting testing across a facility.

Key Features

The MCEMAX brings together a range of motor tests and electrical measurements into one compact portable system. Its also features built-in software that records the results, giving users the data they need to examine motor condition and compare findings across tests.

  • Static and Dynamic Motor Testing

Provides tests for motors that are shut down and measurements for motors while they are running, including power and current signature tests.

  • Automatic Insulation Testing

Performs insulation resistance (IR), polarisation index (PI), dielectric absorption ratio (DAR) and step voltage tests.

  • Six-Channel Simultaneous Acquisition

Captures six channels of test data at the same time.

  • Electrical Measurements

Measures phase-to-phase resistance and inductance, ground capacitance, phase impedance and phase angle, among other parameters.

  • Operating and Performance Analysis

Includes current spectral analysis, three-phase inrush and start-up testing, torque analysis and efficiency analysis.

  • Integrated MCEGold Software

Maintains motor test history and displays red or yellow alerts for results outside its acceptance criteria.

  • Portable Test System

Combines an integrated laptop with a battery-powered instrument in a rugged carrying case.

How It Works?

The analyser utilises different tests depending on whether a motor is in shut down or running mode. The resulting measurements are reviewed in the MCEGold software to assess motor condition and compare results over time. Below is a typical working process of the MCEMAX.

Select the Test Condition

Choose tests appropriate to the motor’s operating state. Static tests are performed when it is shut down; dynamic tests collect data while it is running.

Collect Measurements

Measure electrical parameters through static tests, or capture voltage and current data during operation for power quality, spectral and start-up analysis.

Review the Results

Examine the test data in MCEGold software. Red or yellow alerts identify results outside the software’s acceptance criteria for closer review.

Compare Over Time

Compare new readings with the motor’s stored test history to track changes in condition and identify findings that warrant investigation.

Motor Fault Zones Assessed

A motor problem does not always originate inside the motor. The MCEMAX’s Six Fault Zone approach divides a motor investigation into the following six places where an electrical or motor condition may originate. It starts with the power supplied to the motor, follows that power through the circuit, and then examines the motor’s insulation and internal components.

01
Fault Zone

Power Quality

  • Incoming voltage conditions, including imbalance, distortion and harmonic content.
02
Fault Zone

Power Circuit

  • Cables and electrical connections, including indications of high-resistance connections.
03
Fault Zone

Insulation

  • Ground insulation condition and signs of deterioration.
04
Fault Zone

Stator

  • Winding condition, including indications of turn insulation shorts or opens.
05
Fault Zone

Rotor

  • Rotor cage condition, including indications of broken bars or shorted rotor iron.
06
Fault Zone

Air Gap

  • Air-gap symmetry and indications of eccentricity.
